eforie nord
Is the 2nd
biggest resort on the Black Sea coast after Mamaia, as it relates to
tourist accomodations. Located 14 kilometers south of Constanta, on the
highway to Mangalia, the town is situated between Lake Techirgiol and
the sea on a cliff 30 m high The beach here is 3 km long and 25 to 30 m
wide - on the south side it is nearly 100 m wide where it eventually
joins Eforie Sud. It is protected by 7 piers, which protect the narrow
sides of the cliff against waves and currents.
The abundance of tourists is due to the neighbouring Lake
Techirghiol. Accommodation capacity is approximately 20,000 - half of
which are in hotels and the remainder being in local villas and
campgrounds. Being one of the oldest resorts, developed between 1893 and
1901, this area has become famous for the therapeutic effects of the
minerals in the earth and in the waters nearby. The sapropelic mud of
Lake Techirghiol prove to help those willing to treat their rheumatic
and dermatological ailments. The natural cure factors are the maritime
climate rich in saline aerosols and solar radiation, the water of the
Black Sea, the springs of sulphurous mesothermal waters (72-80°F) and
the saprophelic mud drawn from the lake.
